Crop without stretching the image

Cropping removes pixels outside the selected rectangle. It does not squeeze a wide photo into a square or invent pixels at its edges. Choose a file, select a ratio, and move the horizontal or vertical position. The light border marks the retained area; the shaded area is removed.

Choose a crop ratio

These are proportions, not guaranteed platform requirements. Check the destination's current specifications before submitting an image. The tool starts with the largest rectangle of the selected ratio that fits the original, rounding to whole pixels. Position sliders move that rectangle within the available space.

Worked example: landscape to square

A 4000 x 3000 image yields a 3000 x 3000 square. Centered, it removes 500 pixels from each side. Moving the horizontal position to 0% keeps the leftmost square; 100% keeps the rightmost. The vertical slider has no effect here because the crop already uses the full height.

Crop first, then resize

After exporting, select Continue with this image and switch to Resize to choose a smaller exact size. This keeps the cropped result in the current session. The resizer page also supports the same sequence. For a KB or MB limit, download the result and finish with the image compressor.

Does cropping reduce quality?

The retained region keeps its pixel dimensions. JPEG and lossy WebP export can introduce compression changes; PNG avoids another lossy encoding stage but cannot restore detail lost before upload. Cropping also leaves fewer pixels for printing. Check the result with the photo print-size calculator.

Transparency, metadata, and limits

PNG and WebP preserve transparent pixels; JPG fills them with white. Input JPG, PNG, and WebP files must be up to 40 MB and 20 megapixels; output is up to 8192 pixels per edge and 20 megapixels. Animated WebP becomes one still frame. This is a rectangular ratio cropper, without freehand, circle, or batch crops. Source metadata is not copied into the export. Files stay on this device and the original is unchanged.
