Convert a PNG file into a real JPEG
Choose a PNG, set JPEG quality from 50% to 95%, and select Convert to JPG. The browser decodes the image and writes a new JPEG; simply renaming .png to .jpg would not convert the contents. JPG and JPEG describe the same format.
What happens to a transparent PNG?
JPEG has no alpha channel. This converter draws the PNG over white before exporting, so transparent gaps and translucent edges blend into that background. A transparent logo that works on a dark page may look different afterward. Keep PNG if the receiving application needs transparency.
Will PNG to JPG make the file smaller?
Often for photographic content, but not always. A PNG containing a simple diagram can already be compact, while JPEG may introduce visible ringing around text. Compare the output preview and actual bytes rather than assuming conversion will save space. Use the KB reducer for a required file-size limit.
Does conversion change the width and height?
No. A 1200 x 800 PNG exports as a 1200 x 800 JPG. Quality adjusts lossy compression, not dimensions. For a different pixel size, use Resize Image; to change framing without stretching, use Crop Image.
Limits and retained information
The converter accepts PNG up to 40 MB and 20 megapixels, with output edges up to 8192 pixels. It exports a still image, without animated-PNG preservation, batch processing, or source metadata copying. Color appearance can differ from color-managed editing software. The original stays unchanged, and image processing happens locally.
Need PNG again? The JPG to PNG converter can change the format, but it cannot recover transparency or detail discarded by JPEG.
